SevGen is short for Seven Generations and is an Indigenous ecological thinking that we must consider that our deliberations and actions of today, will affect seven generations into the future, requiring us to be more conscious about our actions while drawing on the wisdoms of seven generation ancestors.

With an intergenerational story of not being served well by the school system, founder Terri Waller believed there was a need for new approaches and methodologies that would bring connection and relevance to Indigenous students. She soon realised that the approach would benefit all students who needed a different approach and decided to pursue a career as a teacher, with a goal of making a difference to the educational experience and outcomes in a creative way.

She worked at various schools and training organisations on the Sunshine Coast before establishing the SevGen Indigenous Corporation in 2012. SevGen caters equally for multiple intelligences and different learning styles and works within a unique 3E model to help fund and sustain its relationship and location based character that is being described as an authentic Australian pedagogy.

SevGen is a community development concept. It has a range of social enterprises all of which have learning at the core for those of us who have been ‘dis’sed: disconnected, disenfranchised, disempowered people who are seeking a deeper meaning and sense of purpose in their lives.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create wellness through connection and relationships.

Our Mission

SevGen has a dual mission, to honour the full true and creative self and to celebrate, validate and reinvigorate Indigenous ways of being for the collective benefit of all.

Our Values

Presence, Commitment, Discipline, Intelligence, Passion, Genuineness, Meaningfulness, Inquisitiveness, Openness.

SevGen responds to communities needs and has a cradle to grave philosophy. In short, we will help people of any ages. We can run projects in any location, and will modify our programs to suit the needs of an individual or entire community.

How We Work

SevGen is unique because there is nothing like it in Australia and is possibly the first in the world where all components seamlessly coexist. Being a community led initiative our work shows up in many ways, shapes and forms but it all leads to one outcome:

Social innovation creating wellness through connection and relationships.

Our aim is for anyone who participates in our programs (SevGennies) to find their passion and purpose, be motivated and feel unstoppable as they move forwards in life!
All of our projects are underpinned by SevGen’s visionary 3E model: Enterprise, Education, Entrepreneurship (copyright SevGen 2012). All projects that we run, are involved in, or support have these three core components built into their design.

Brian is a proud murri man who always calls Cherbourg home and would love to see all murri people have an opportunity to realise their dreams, hopes and aspirations through education and all types of experiences whether they be good, positive or challenging and to learn to stand proud of who they really are. Brian is a well-regarded community leader himself but says he is in awe of the inspirational leaders that he has been blessed who include his parents and extended family. Brian says they have instilled principles and values that continue to be the guiding structure that he holds as his foundation. Brian joined our Council of Elders after a yarn with old time friend and SevGen Creator Terri Waller. For Brian SevGen was understood as offering a brighter future for disengaged youth who struggle with mainstream schooling. Brian is only too cognisant of the fact that there are many youth who continue to fail in the education system and regime. Brian can imagine that through SevGen there is a great potential to reinvigorate a number of students who may slip through the cracks and provide them with an alternative more to their learning styles. Brian has shared with us that he lives by the motto
