About the Campaign

Kanyini is a Yankunytjatjara (Central Desert) concept of unconditional love, popularised in a 2006 documentary Kanyini by Kuminjai Uncle Bob Randall a much loved and missed elder, singer and community leader

SevGen references this theory of connectedness, caring and responsibility with the blessing of his widowed wife, Aunty Barb who said “He wanted people to use the word widely. It’s a beautiful word to use and apply”.

Our Kanyini’s goal of giving those who are the most vulnerable and sometimes fragile, a safe space to transition to life outside of gaol is a timely one, with the 2017 Closing the Gap report highlighting the over-representation of indigenous people in the criminal justice system.
