Ngatijirri:
the budgie who guides us

On Kabi Kabi Country the bright-green budgie—Ngatijirri—is more than a familiar bird. Elders tell how its arrival on the wind signals the turning of seasons and the readiness of particular fruits and seeds; how its constant chatter reminds people to check the health of waterholes and hollow trees; and how its tiny wings carry big lessons about living lightly yet dependably on Country.

At SevGen we listen to that story.

  • Ngatijirri teaches that life above ground depends on care below it.
    → We respond by tending soil, waterways and roots first, knowing healthy Country sustains healthy families.

  • Ngatijirri arrives in flocks, never alone.
    → We organise our programs—Deadly Espresso, Bushtucker, Galeru, HIPSTAS and others—so they move together like a flock: separate wings, shared direction.

  • Ngatijirri’s seasonal knowledge is handed forward generation after generation.
    → We base every project on the Seven-Generation principle, asking how today’s choices will sound in the ears of children not yet born.

So when you see the little budgie close to SevGen’s name, it is our daily reminder that change starts with humble observation, grows through collective action and endures only when we honour the rhythms of Country that Ngatijirri still sings.

SevGen's mission is twofold: to honour the true and creative self within each of us and to rejuvenate Indigenous ways of being. By celebrating and validating these traditions, we weave a tapestry of understanding, unity, and shared purpose.

The SevGen Cell

Life begins and keeps on thriving inside a cell.

It is the smallest unit where purpose, protection and exchange are perfectly balanced: a permeable membrane welcomes what sustains life; a nucleus holds ancestral instructions; organelles move, process, heal and regenerate. For SevGen, the cell is more than a biology metaphor—it is a cultural lens that honours interdependence, Country and community.

By framing our work as a living cell, we move beyond “programs and departments” to focus on relationships and life‑giving functions. Every action must nourish the whole organism.

In this map, SevGen is the nucleus, anchored by Country and community. Each initiative circulates like an organelle, producing energy, knowledge and healing. Together they form a self‑sustaining organism that grows futures for the next seven generations.
